More Than A Game

Hockey is more than a game of competition. It teaches people how to have fun while competing, to work hard and the game builds character among the athletes. Hockey is extremely competitive, but that's what makes it fun. When you finally beat a team, score a goal or even make an amazing save that's when you realize why you play the game. By the time game day comes you are ready to go out on the ice and do whatever you can to win the game because you have practiced day in and day out. If you aren't practicing you are playing. That's just how hockey is. Most importantly, hockey players learn very quickly that having a good character is one of the most important things for an athlete. You learn to have no ego because you may win one game, but the next time you play that team it could be a whole different story. There's also a lot of contact in hockey and you need to learn to take the hit and move on. If there is ever an injury on the ice it is known how important it is to respect that player because one day that could be you. At the end of the game no matter what the outcome is you respect the other team by shaking their hand and telling them good game. We push ourselves until we can't breathe, skate until we can't feel our legs, get knocked down a hundred times, but we always get up because we love the game of hockey.
